PRESENTING AN EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION AND SIGNED hardback copy of Stories of Old Kentucky by Martha Grassham Purcell from 1915.

This RARE book is in Good condition for its age….. some very minor ‘knicks’ on the edges of the hardcover….. small crack on the back cover.

The book is a SIGNED FIRST EDITION!!

It was Dedicated: “To Mrs. Eliza Calvert Hall Obenchain from Martha Grassham Purcell who has long been one of Mrs. Obenchain’s ardent admirers”.

Mrs. Eliza Calvert Hall Obenchain was a prominent and extremely highly regarded author and suffragist from Bowling Green, Kentucky…..noted for her novel ‘Aunt Jane of Kentucky’ and later praised by none other than President Theodore Roosevelt.

AS AN ADDED BONUS…..the Book comes with an additional inscription on the inside of the front cover from Mrs. Eliza Calvert Hall Obenchain to her eldest son Thomas Obenchain.

This book was part of the extensive private collection of the Calvert Hall/Obenchain/Godwin/McMillan Collection formerly of Bowling Green, KY and later, Highland Park, Texas.

AS you can see from the history of this Collection (see our PDF) the family have very strong ancestral ties to the State of Kentucky.
