VERY RARE Flemish Pottery Beer Jug or Stein, depicting the Story of Susanna and dated 1584.
The original jug has been attributed to Engel Kran, a well known and highly regarded German/Flemish potter.
Kran pieces are VERY VERY RARE and only a few have appeared at Auction and sell for VERY high prices.
The original Suzanna Jug by Kran, is a brown earthenware salt glazed jug and is in a Museum in Germany.
This one, is most likely an18/19th Century copy in a blue salt glaze making it EXTREMELY RARE and HIGHLY DESIRABLE!

Susanna jug , Engel Kran, c. 1584 – c. 1600
The body of this large pitcher is embellished with scenes from the story of the chaste Susanna. When the beautiful Susanna refused to submit to the dishonourable proposals of two elderly men, they accused her of adultery. However, the young Daniel exposed the two greybeards as liars. The two men suffered a gruesome death.

Provenance: Bought at Auction in Ireland.
Dimensions: 10 in High and 5.5 in wide
Condition: Probably had a pewter Lid at one time, but otherwise very good. Some minor ‘nibbles’ on the spout.
