CORRECTION TO THE VIDEO: The Snakes are Corn Snakes and not Rattlesnakes.
This is an extremely large, late 20th Century table with 12 chairs. It can be used as a chic and unique Dining Table or a Boardroom Table.
The table is hand-painted with rattlesnakes and silver leaf banding. It comes in 2 sections and is of modern design and construction with a black lacquer base.
Joe Elliott lives in a suburb of Dublin called Stepaside and has lived there since the 1980’s. He also has numerous other homes worldwide including LA and London. This table was in his London property.
In 2007 I bought this table from Joe, to use as my office boardroom table. I could not resist the irony of snakes in a Lawyers office !!! LOL
The table has full provenance as Joe sent me a postcard from Stepaside in 2007 when I bought the table from him saying “I very happy you are enjoying the table and I hope that the snakes are not frightening too many people off !” signed Best Wishes, Joe Elliott.
The card and note are framed with a Def Leppard classic shirt and display case to accompany the table and authenticate it.
The corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus) is a North American species of rat snake that subdues its small prey by constriction.[4][5] It is found throughout the southeastern and central United States. Their docile nature, reluctance to bite, moderate adult size, attractive pattern, and comparatively simple care make them popular pet snakes. Though superficially resembling the venomous copperhead and often killed as a result of this mistaken identity, corn snakes are harmless and beneficial to humans.[6] Corn snakes lack functional venom and help control populations of wild rodent pests that damage crops and spread disease.[7]
The corn snake is named for the species’ regular presence near grain stores, where it preys on mice and rats that eat harvested corn.[8] The Oxford English Dictionary cites this usage as far back as 1675. Some sources maintain that the corn snake is so-named because the distinctive, nearly-checkered pattern of the snake’s belly scales resembles the kernels of variegated corn.[9][10] Regardless of the name’s origin, the corn reference can be a useful mnemonic for identifying corn snakes.
