Bayonet for American M1 1943 WWII by American Fork and Hoe (AFH), Geneva, OH

Bayonet for American M1 1943 WWII by American Fork and Hoe (AFH), Geneva, OH.

PRESENTING a RARE American Marine Bayonet from circa 1943-44 … Pacific Campaign in World War 2.

Made for the standard issue M1 Machine Gun for US Marines.

Stamped and marked: “A.F.H. 1943”. It also has the mark for the ‘US’ and the flaming bomb insignia.

The AFH stands for American, Fork & Hoe of Geneva Ohio who manufactured the bayonet.

This bayonet is from a Private Estate in Dallas Texas and was kept by the family with the Japanese Katana Dagger (also for sale in this category) used by the owner’s father in the Phillipines in WW2. The ‘story’ is that the father killed a Japanese Officer in close combat during the Phillipines Campaign and took the dead Japanese Officer’s Katana as a souvenir. The bayonet and dagger has remained together ever since.

From circa 1944.

The Commonwealth of the Philippines was attacked by the Japanese Imperial Army on December 7, 1941 nine hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor (the Philippines is on the Asian side of the international date line). The United States of America controlled the Philippines at the time and possessed important military bases there. The combined American-Filipino army was defeated in the Battle of Bataan and the Battle of Corregidor in April 1942, but guerrilla resistance against the Japanese continued throughout the war. Uncaptured Filipino army units, a communist insurgency and supporting American agents all played a role in the resistance. Due to the huge number of islands, the Japanese never occupied many of the smaller and more minor islands. Japanese control over the countryside and smaller towns was often tenuous at best.

In 1944, Allied forces liberated the islands from Japanese control in a naval invasion.
